Simplifying Work and School Account Login on Mobile Devices

By Isabel ClaassenPublished On: April 4, 2023Categories: Technology TrendsComments Off on Simplifying Work and School Account Login on Mobile Devices

As per a recent addition to the Microsoft 365 Roadmap (as reported by Dr. Windows), the tech behemoth intends to introduce a fresh attribute to the Outlook application for mobiles that does not pertain to emails. This attribute, called “Authenticator Lite,” will allow users to log in to their work or educational accounts without the need for an additional app.

Currently, there are two methods of authentication available, which include “Two-factor Authentication (2FA)” and “Multifactor Authentication (MFA)”. Both 2FA and MFA are increasingly popular security measures, as they provide added security for your business and avoid anyone with ill intent to access your sensitive data.

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is a security process that requires users to provide two forms of authentication in order to access an account or service. This process adds an extra layer of security to traditional username and password authentication, as it requires something the user knows, such as a password, and something the user has, such as a mobile device or physical token.

Multifactor authentication (MFA) is a similar process it however requires users to provide two or more forms of authentication in order to access an account or service. MFA may include something the user knows, something the user has, and something the user is, such as biometric authentication like fingerprint or facial recognition.

Although Microsoft already has a free dedicated “Authenticator app for iOS and Android, millions of outlook users will be able to tighten their accounts security without even downloading additional software and will most probably available soon.

How are you protecting your accessibility to your accounts? Are your employees aware of not to share or have a password lying around? This is just a drop in the ocean when discussing cybersecurity and the protection of your business against hackers and cyberthieves.
